According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, the cost of 12.5kg of cooking gas increased from N7,413.25 in January 2022 to N10,277.17 in January 2023, or by a 38.63% annual rise.
Nonetheless, the monthly increase in the price to refill it from N10,248.97 in December 2022 to N10,277.17 in January 2023 was only 0.28 percent.
According to a state profile analysis, Benue had the highest average retail price for 12.5 kg of cooking gas at N11,260.67, followed by Cross River at N10,833.33 and Ebonyi at N10,763.57.
However, the research also revealed that Yobe had the lowest average price for 12.5kg of cooking gas, which was N9,550.00, followed by Taraba and Gombe, which were N9,845.00 and N9,850.00 respectively.
The Bureau’s “Cooking Gas Price Watch” for January 2023, which was published on Friday in Abuja, included this information.
The report also showed that, on a monthly basis, the price of cooking gas increased by 0.15 percent, from N4,565.56 in December 2022 to N4,588.75 in January 2023, while on an annual basis, the price of cooking gas increased by 25.46 percent, from N3,657.57 in January 2022 to N4,588.75 in January 2023.
In its state profile study, the NBS cooking gas report revealed that Kwara had the highest average price for 5kg of cooking gas at N4,962.50, followed by Plateau at N4,945.50 and Adamawa at N4,936.67.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Anambra and Rivers recorded the highest prices at N4,183.14 and N4,210.00, respectively, while Enugu recorded the lowest price at N4,119.23.
The North-Central reported the highest average retail price of N4,859.60, followed by the North-West at N4,616.66 according to zone analysis.
The NBS reported that the South-East had the lowest average retail price at N4,408.99.
Corresponding to this, the average retail price per litre of kerosene increased by 4.42 percent from N1,104.61 in December 2022 to N1,153.40 in January 2023 on a month-over-month basis.
The average retail price per litre of kerosene increased by 163.87 percent from N437.11 in January 2022, according to its National Kerosene Price Watch for January 2023.
According to state profile study, Abuja had the highest average price per litre of kerosene in December 2023, at N1,566.67. Lagos was second with N1,411.11 and Plateau was third with N1,383.33, the research said.
Nonetheless, Jigawa recorded the lowest price at N891.67, followed by Edo at N925.93 and Katsina at N935.19.
The South-West had the highest average retail price per litre of kerosene at N1,232.15, according to the NBS, followed by the South-East at N1,223.95
It stated that at N1,003.54, the North-West had the lowest average retail price per liter of kerosene.
According to the data, consumers paid an average retail price of N3,886.11 per gallon of kerosene in January 2023, which represents a 3.54 percent rise over the N3,753.38 reported in December 2022.
“From N1,528.74 reported in January 2022, the average price per gallon of kerosene grew by 154.20 percent on an annual basis.”
