The Niger Delta Youth Council of Nigeria, NDYCN, has urged President Bola Tinubu to investigate previous political leaders and identify individuals who were corrupt so that proper disciplinary steps can be taken.
It also encouraged the President to re-energize the country’s anti-corruption authorities so that they can carry out their mission of eradicating corruption successfully.
In a statement issued by its National President, Comrade Blessing Adogbeji, the NDYCN emphasized the importance of the President not allowing anyone, particularly former ministers and governors, regardless of political affiliation, to escape punishment if proven liable in corruption cases.
He did, however, emphasize the importance of using legitimacy to combat corruption, stating that the strategy to eradicating corruption in the country must be just.
Tinubu, who described corruption as a crime against the common will of Nigerians, was cautioned not to conduct selective investigations of public office holders found wanting before or during his government.
While some past ministers and governors were found to have outstanding histories of accountability and openness, others were found to be steeped in huge thievery and poor leadership.
He stated, “Some of them never followed due process, and most of their activities are enmeshed in corruption, secrecy, and a lack of decorum for good governance.”
He urged Nigerians to be on the lookout for suspected corrupt public officials who may be attempting to elude prosecution.
