The newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, is set to begin a 21-day period of traditional rites as part of his ascension to the throne of the ancient Yoruba town. Oba Owoade was officially announced as the Alaafin-elect on Friday, following the passing of the 44th Alaafin, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, two years ago.

On Monday, the new monarch received his certificate and staff of office from Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, at a ceremony held at the Agodi Government House in Ibadan. The event was attended by the Oyomesi (kingmakers), prominent government officials, and distinguished individuals from the state.

Following the presentation, Oba Owoade proceeded to Oyo town, where he will be warmly received by the community and begin his traditional rites to formally assume the throne. Further details of the ceremonies will be provided later.
