The Supreme Court’s order to postpone the Central Bank of Nigeria’s deadline for exchanging old notes till February 10 will be complied with by the Federal Government.
Abubakar Malami, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), made this statement on February 9 during an interview with AriseTV.
He claims that the administration is hoping that the ex parte ruling, which is due to be overturned on February 15, 2023, would be extended.
He argued that the CBN, a significant participant in the dispute, was not identified as a defendant and therefore the Supreme Court lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter in the first place.
Malami, on the other hand, contended that respect for the law was the driving force for the government’s decision to adhere to the Supreme Court’s decision about the deadline for old notes.
