Six people perished when their boat capsized on the Kaduna River near Gbara in Niger State’s Mokwa Local Government Area.
At around 6:30 p.m. on Friday, there was a boat accident.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Minna, Ahmed Inga, the director-general of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), acknowledged the occurrence.
He revealed that the boat was traveling to the village of Gbara from the Lavun Local Government Area’s Lanchikagi settlement.
48 passengers, according to Mr. Inga, were returning from the Danchitagi village market in Lavun.
He claimed that 37 people made it out alive, six bodies were found, and five more people are still missing.
The SEMA director said that a downpour and a strong windstorm were to blame for the disaster and added that search and rescue efforts were still being made to find the missing people.
