The Nigerian Correctional Service has removed the Officer-in-Charge of Ibara Medium Custodial Centre in Ogun State after a death row inmate allegedly used TikTok from prison.
Elijah Oyebode, sentenced to death in 2019 for murder, allegedly operated TikTok accounts while in custody. One account reportedly reached Level 20 gifting status.
The Nigerian Correctional Service said an investigation uncovered a prohibited mobile phone allegedly used to access social media.
The service recovered the device as evidence. Meanwhile, officials transferred Oyebode to another facility and placed him under tighter security.
In addition, the Officer-in-Charge and two other senior officers lost their positions pending the investigation.
The Nigerian Correctional Service described the incident as a serious breach of custodial regulations and security protocols.
