The federal government stated on Tuesday that there is no reason to believe anything other than the planned outcome of the upcoming elections.
The assurance came after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday raised concern that ongoing security issues across the nation posed a threat to the election.
Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, and the Minister of Health were all featured in the 17th edition of the President Muhammadu Buhari Scorecard series. Lai Mohammed said the electoral body is working with security agencies to ensure that the exercise is conducted smoothly.
Before calling the Honourable Minister of Health to the podium, he said: “Let me take this opportunity to address media inquiries regarding a widely reported claim that the 2023 general elections are in serious danger of being called off due to insecurity. The claim is attributed to an INEC official.
“The Federal Government’s stance is still that the scheduled 2023 elections will take place. Nothing has occurred to alter that viewpoint.
“We are aware that INEC is collaborating with the security services to ensure that the elections are successfully conducted throughout the nation.
The security agencies have also kept reminding Nigerians that they are doing everything in their power to make sure the elections are held in a peaceful environment. There is therefore no reason for concern.
