Babatunji Wusu – Information Commissioner Taiwo Olatunbosun has stated that the Ekiti State Government wants to clarify the circumstances behind a viral video in which several persons are seen being swept away by water in the Ado-Ekiti neighborhood of Ureje.
In a statement that he released yesterday in Ado-Ekiti, he claimed: “While it is true that the rain on Tuesday afternoon caused flooding in several parts of the capital, it is not accurate that three individuals were carried away by the river.

The truth is that the folks in the video who were yelling for help were almost immediately saved from the river by locals.

“The state administration has put in place mechanisms to stop erosion and flooding in light of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency’s (NiMET) projections of severe rainfall and flooding in various areas of the nation, including Ekiti State, this year. This includes, among other things, dredging canals, building bridges, distilling culverts, improving disaster response and management, and improving waste disposal systems.

“We don’t take all the warnings for granted because we’re a responsible government. While we continue to make investments in environmental security and safety, we implore citizens to work with the government to ensure that the environment is safe for everyone.

Residents are warned to refrain from careless trash disposal and building on waterways because these actions exacerbate flooding. Additionally, it is important that they stay away from flooded regions, especially during heavy rain.
