Tunji Wusu –
Nasir Kwarra, the chairman of the National Population Commission, said on Thursday that President Bola Tinubu will personally announce the revised dates for the population and housing census, which was postponed in April.
Following a briefing by his delegation to the President at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja, Kwarra revealed this to State House Correspondents.
The President received the NPC’s report at the briefing, which he is now expected to review and consider before deciding when to hold the nationwide exercise.
The Census Boss claims that the Commission would ask for extra financial support because as the exercise is postponed, the Commission’s financial needs increase.
“We fully briefed him (President Tinubu) on the level of our preparedness and the results we envision, and I’ll like to say that Mr. President has graciously approved to support the Commission in conducting the census and our preparatory activities, though we’re not stuck at all, but he has given us the courage and the impetus to upscale our preparation,” he said.
We’ve made a submission to him that he will study before coming back to us, so we’ll continue making preparations and wait to hear when the census will be conducted.
He claimed that the President gave the commission an assurance of his support in the interim.
“He has given that to us, and we are extremely grateful for this,” said Kwarra. “He has also realized the importance of data for the purpose of national planning and development.”
