Abeokuta, Ogun State – The management of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) has vowed to sue the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following a dramatic midnight raid on its premises that left several guests injured.
At about 2 a.m. on Sunday, operatives from the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 stormed the OOPL Rounda Fun Spot during a “Wet & Rave Splash Extravaganza” party. Ninety-three youths were arrested, while 18 vehicles and multiple mobile devices were seized. A viral video from the incident showed guests scrambling for safety amid the chaos.
The EFCC later said on its official X account that the raid followed credible intelligence on suspected internet fraud activities.
However, OOPL Ventures Managing Director, Vitalis Ortese, accused the operatives—over 50 armed men led by one ‘Olapade’—of firing gunshots, threatening to kill attendees, and creating a scene that sparked panic and injuries.
Ortese described the incident as “a Gestapo-like invasion” and “a blatant violation of the rights of OOPL as a corporate citizen and those who attended the private, publicly advertised event.” He also alleged that neither the police officers stationed at the OOPL gates nor reinforcements from Kemta Police Station were informed of the EFCC operation, and no warrant was presented.
“The invasion caused near carnage and terror among residents,” Ortese stated, adding that the management demands an explanation and an apology from the EFCC. He warned that the library would take legal action if the agency fails to respond.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
