Former Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi, on Sunday flatly rejected claims by former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, that they jointly initiated talks to form an opposition coalition.
Amaechi had, during an X Space on Saturday, alleged that he and Fayemi began discussions on building the coalition before opening it up to other politicians.
“Fayemi and I began the coalition discussion, and we subsequently agreed to broaden it so that it would involve more than just the two of us talking about starting a new party,” the former Rivers State governor said.
But Fayemi, in a swift rebuttal through his media head, Ahmad Sajoh, dismissed the claim as “false and misleading,” stressing that he remains a staunch member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Sajoh warned against what he described as “manufactured controversies” in the political space.
“In an era where fabricated or distorted statements are often attributed to public figures for malicious purposes, we are cautious about engaging with such provocations,” he said, adding it was possible Amaechi was misquoted.
The statement further asserted: “We unequivocally state that these claims lack any basis. Dr. Fayemi remains a committed member and leader of the APC in Ekiti State. At various public forums, he has consistently affirmed his dedication to the party, working to address its challenges and advance its progressive ideals for Nigeria. Nothing has changed.”
