Nigerian rap icon Olamide Adedeji has reaffirmed his commitment to indigenous music, declaring that he will not alter his sound to chase international acceptance.

In a recent interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra, the ‘Local Rapper’ hitmaker said identifying his audience early was the game-changer in his career, stressing that authenticity remains his greatest strategy.

“You have to identify your audience. Once you identify your audience, the rest of the world will catch up eventually,” he said, noting that he is fully aware of who he speaks to and refuses to bend to Western pressure.

Olamide insisted he is proud of his Yoruba roots and sees no reason to imitate foreign styles. “I’m comfortable in my skin. I’m a Naija guy, Yoruba boy, I have H-Factor and all that, and I’m proud about it. You just have to stay true to yourself,” he added.

Olamide has long been celebrated for his dominance in Nigeria’s street music culture, consistently maintaining his indigenous identity while influencing global Afrobeats trends.
