Veteran Nollywood actress Ngozi Nwosu has opened up about how she cancelled her wedding a day before the ceremony after suffering repeated physical assault from her former partner.
Speaking on Real Life With Aunty Ayo Adesanya, Nwosu recounted a harrowing incident where her partner violently dragged her by the hair until she bled — a moment she described as the breaking point that forced her to walk away, despite intense pressure from family and her fiancé to proceed.
“He was a violent man,” she recalled. “One day he broke the kitchen door while I was boiling water, dragged me by my hair and I started bleeding. That’s a day I’ll never forget. I don’t know where the strength came from, but I was ready to defend myself. My neighbours even saw me naked.”
Nwosu stated that she refused to sign the marriage papers, stressing that no woman should remain in an environment of violence.
“Marriage is not a do-or-die affair. When domestic violence becomes too much, walk away. Once you accept it, you’ll keep accepting it for the rest of your life,” she warned.
She urged women to reject abusive partners who constantly return with apologies, insisting that the cycle of abuse always repeats itself.
