On Saturday, November 18, 2023, INEC said it would hold new elections in 59 polling places in the Ogori/Magongo LGA of Kogi State.
This was revealed in a statement made by Mohammed Haruna, the national commissioner of INEC, on Sunday night, November 12.
The electoral authority reported that it had received information from Kogi on the suspension of elections in some state sites where result sheets had been finished prior to the start of voting.
“The most critical incident occurred in nine out of ten Wards in Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area (LGA),” the statement reads.
Section 24(3) of the Electoral Act 2022 and Clause 59 of the INEC Regulations and Guidelines on the Conduct of Elections 2022 stipulate that new elections shall be held in the impacted Polling Units on Saturday, November 18, 2023.
Remember that as of Sunday night, the results of the elections in 18 of the state’s 21 local government districts had been tallied.
