A civil society organisation, The Osun Masterminds (TOM), has sharply criticised the operations of the Osun State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, accusing its leadership of misconduct and failure to meet public expectations.
The group made its position public on Tuesday in Osogbo during its December 2025 State of the State address, delivered by its Executive Director, Prof. Wasiu Oyedokun-Alli.
TOM said the corps has fallen short of its mandate, citing reported cases of murder, extortion and high-handed conduct by some operatives. The group referenced the killing of residents in Akinlalu community in September, describing the incident as disturbing and unacceptable for a security outfit established to protect lives and property.
According to the group, the current leadership of the corps, headed by retired Assistant Superintendent of Police Omoyele, has failed to uphold acceptable professional standards. It argued that public confidence in the outfit has continued to erode under the present command.
The Osun Masterminds compared the performance of the Osun Amotekun unfavourably with those in Ondo, Oyo, Ogun, Ekiti and Lagos states, where it said the corps has recorded measurable successes in tackling insecurity.
The group recalled what it described as the significant achievements of the corps under former leaders, Comrade Shittu Amitolu and Brigadier General Adewinnmbi, noting that the outfit once enjoyed public trust and operational efficiency.
TOM called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to immediately reorganise the Amotekun Corps in the interest of public safety, insisting that decisive action was required.
“We are calling for a total overhauling of the headship of Amotekun in Osun State. We need a total overhaul,” Oyedokun-Alli said.
He added that the group was raising the alarm to prevent the spillover of terrorism and banditry into Osun State from neighbouring regions, stressing the need for proactive security measures.
“Let it be on record that we are warning again in order to curtail insecurity in Osun State before it gets to that point,” he said.
While acknowledging a reduction in security challenges during the recent Yuletide season, the group commended the Federal Government for its efforts. However, it cautioned against emerging threats to Nigeria’s territorial integrity and urged sustained vigilance in national security management.
