Supporters from various opposition parties in Katsina State formally pledged allegiance to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday, marking a significant political realignment in the state.

The majority of the defectors were from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Accord Party, and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP). Among the prominent figures switching sides was Rabiu Bakori, the PDP’s deputy governorship candidate in the 2015 Katsina election.

The decampees were officially welcomed into the APC fold by the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, alongside members of the National Working Committee (NWC), during the flag-off of the APC Local Government Elections Campaign held in Ingawa Local Government Area. Describing the event as a landmark moment, Ganduje reassured the new members of equal opportunities within the party. He emphasized that the APC is committed to fostering development and delivering on democratic promises. “Today, we are receiving defectors from PDP, NNPP, Accord Party, APP, and PRP. Katsina people have always stood out for their hard work, unity, hospitality, and strong values,” Ganduje said.

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, expressed optimism about the APC’s sustained dominance in the state. Addressing the crowd, he highlighted the party’s achievements and its plans to build on past successes. “Today, we welcome over 100,000 new members from PDP, NNPP, PRP, and Accord Party who have recognized the impact of our administration. I urge our supporters to come out en masse on February 15 and vote for the APC without fear. Rest assured, we will continue to deliver meaningful progress. Our former governors, senators, and representatives remain united in their dedication to our shared vision,” Radda affirmed.

The decampees’ integration into the APC is seen as a boost to the party’s prospects in the forthcoming local government elections.
