No fewer than 120,000 supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Lega Local Government Area of Kebbi State, delivering a major setback to the ruling party in the state.

The mass defection occurred during a mega rally held at the weekend, where the former APC members publicly declared their allegiance to the ADC.

Figures released on the ADC’s mobilisation platform indicated that the number of defectors exceeded 120,000, underscoring the scale of the political realignment.

The development comes amid intensified efforts by key opposition figures to strengthen the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections. Former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, a Kebbi State indigene, has been linked to ongoing moves to woo politicians and grassroots supporters into the party.

Malami, who has aligned with the ADC as a platform for the next general elections, is currently facing investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The ADC has, in recent months, recorded a surge in defections nationwide, signaling growing momentum as opposition parties reposition ahead of the 2027 polls.
