The PDP governorship candidate, Adedamola Adebayo, popularly known as FRYO, has withdrawn from the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election and endorsed incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Adebayo announced his decision on Wednesday at a press conference in Osogbo, just three days before the election. He also directed PDP members, supporters and political structures linked to his leadership across the state to support Adeleke’s re-election.

He said extensive consultations and an assessment of the state’s political situation influenced his decision.

“This decision was not taken in haste. I have spent considerable time consulting with people, listening to different perspectives and carefully examining the political situation in our state,” he said.

Adebayo explained that he placed the wider interests of Osun above his personal political ambition.

“Politics is not only about contesting elections. Politics is also about understanding the realities of the moment, making difficult decisions when necessary, and putting the larger interest of our people above personal ambition,” he said.

He then declared his support for Adeleke, saying, “After extensive consultations and careful consideration, I have decided to endorse His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, in the August 15 gubernatorial election in Osun State.”

The former candidate said he alone made the decision and accepted full responsibility for it. He urged his supporters to respect democratic choices, even where they disagreed with his position.

Adebayo also appealed to political leaders and supporters to reject violence, intimidation and hate speech during the election.

“Osun State is bigger than any individual. Osun State is bigger than any political party. And Osun State is certainly bigger than any election.”

He urged residents to protect peace and unity, noting that relationships and communities would remain after the election.

Do you think Adebayo’s endorsement could influence the outcome of the Osun election?
