PDP Court Case at the Federal High Court in Abuja

|By Adejumo Adekunle – A PDP Court Case triggered mild drama at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday after two senior lawyers announced separate appearances for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a suit against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The case, before Justice Salim Ibrahim, seeks an order compelling INEC to recognise the Kabiru Turaki-led interim National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP and publish its details on the commission’s official website.

The PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), led by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, filed the suit alongside the party. The plaintiffs argued that the names of the interim NWC members were forwarded to INEC in May and should be reflected in the commission’s records.

However, proceedings took an unexpected turn when Chief Gordy Uche, SAN, announced his appearance for all eight plaintiffs, including the PDP. Moments later, Sunday Ameh, SAN, also appeared and declared that he represented the PDP, the eighth plaintiff in the suit.

As a result, the development caused confusion in the courtroom and highlighted the internal leadership dispute facing the opposition party.

Several party leaders attended the hearing, including factional national chairman Tanimu Turaki and BoT member Prof. Jerry Gana.

The PDP Court Case centres on efforts to secure official recognition of the interim leadership structure. Meanwhile, political observers are closely watching the proceedings because the outcome could shape the party’s internal administration ahead of future political activities.

The matter remains before the court for further proceedings.
