|By Adejumo Adekunle – Concerned youths in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State have urged the state government to investigate a Takum registration scam allegation involving the collection of money from residents under the guise of a government programme.
According to a report submitted to Governor Agbu Kefas, unidentified individuals allegedly collected N1,000 from elderly people and youths across several communities. The suspects reportedly claimed the payment was required for registration into a federal government initiative known as “Renewed Hope.”
The youths said the Takum registration scam allegation was not an isolated incident. Instead, they claimed similar activities had occurred repeatedly in the area and nearby communities, raising concerns among residents.
In a protest letter signed by Christopher Tanimu, the group warned that the alleged scheme was causing fear, financial losses and distress, particularly among vulnerable residents. As a result, they called on the government to act swiftly.
Furthermore, the youths appealed for an urgent investigation to uncover those behind the exercise and prevent further exploitation. They expressed confidence in Governor Kefas’ administration and urged authorities to protect affected citizens.
“We are bringing this matter to your attention because we believe you are a listening governor and we trust your administration,” the letter stated.
Meanwhile, the group reaffirmed its commitment to peace and development in Takum, Taraba State and Nigeria. They also prayed for continued progress in the state.
The Takum registration scam allegation has heightened calls for greater public awareness and stronger oversight of activities carried out in the name of government programmes.
