Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has thrown his weight behind the zoning of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential ticket to the South, saying he willingly set aside his ambition in the interest of party unity.
Mohammed, who also serves as Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, told journalists yesterday that the decision was a collective one, reached after careful deliberation by party stakeholders.
“I’m very satisfied with the resolution because I’m part of it—from the arrangement, strategy, and delivery,” he said.
The governor explained that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State, reaffirmed the zoning formula, allocating the presidency to the South-South while maintaining balance across party offices.
“This decision is about sacrifice, not personal interest,” Mohammed stressed. “Politics is self-actualization within the framework of party decisions, manifesto, and national development. Power ultimately comes from God.”
He urged Nigerians to view the move as a step toward fostering “sanity, understanding, and unity” within the PDP, adding that governors, the National Working Committee (NWC), and the Board of Trustees (BoT) remain committed to strengthening the party as a credible alternative for Nigerians.
