The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has launched a nationwide strike, ordering all its members to down tools across offices, companies, institutions, and agencies from 12:01 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2025.
The decision followed a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Saturday. In a directive issued afterward, the union instructed members in field locations—including control rooms, panel operations, and outfield duties—to suspend services from 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 28, and commence a round-the-clock prayer vigil.
According to the statement, the prayer session seeks divine intervention for authorities to compel business mogul Aliko Dangote and his associates to comply with Nigeria’s laws. “No man is bigger than our country. An injury to one is an injury to all,” the union declared.
PENGASSAN further mandated its members to cut off gas and crude oil supplies to the Dangote Refinery, stressing that all International Oil Company (IOC) branches must ramp down production immediately. The union warned that no intervention would be entertained during the strike, except in situations that threaten the safety of personnel or assets, and such exceptions would require clearance from the National Secretariat.
The industrial action is expected to disrupt critical operations in the oil and gas sector, amplifying pressure on the government and industry stakeholders.
