The Independent National Electoral Commission’s policies and standards are being violated by the dissemination and distribution of purported or false election results on social media and other news platforms. This was noted by the Nigeria Police Force.
Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the NPF’s spokesperson, revealed in a statement on Sunday.
According to Adejobi, “The police has seen this trend as a planned attempt to stoke the political climate and perhaps spark post-election chaos. We consider this to be unjust, unpatriotic, and false.
“The NPF hereby issues a warning to individuals disseminating these purported or false election results to stop their malign behavior and patiently await INEC’s official results, which are true and credible.
“The NPF calls on Nigerians to maintain their composure and carry out their lawful responsibilities, while those who are scheduled to cast ballots today are asked to be orderly and law-abiding as we have reinforced our security tactics for the orderly conclusion of the 2023 general elections.”
