A few police officers in Lagos State have voiced their dissatisfaction with the Force authorities’ callous disregard for their well-being.
This comes after Wale Akinlotan, a police constable of the Lagos State Police Command, passed away while performing his duties at the Ilupeju police division.
Akinlotan, a Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Mass Communication graduate, fell on Monday at his Ilupeju station, where he worked as the DPO’s orderly.
The circumstances surrounding the deceased’s death are still unknown, but according to Daily Post, he died a few weeks after being bitten by a suspect.
According to reports, Akintola helped capture the man who attempted to break free from police custody.
“During the process of apprehending the suspect, he bit Wale on his shoulder, his fingers, and other places,” a source claimed.
On October 19, Wale also shared footage of his injuries from the incident on Tiktok, captioning them with the phrase “Job hazard.” The poison of a snake or scorpion is not as deadly as a human bite, thank God for life.
Since then, the police officer has been laid to rest in a Lagos State cemetery.
Wale Akinlotan was a media representative for the Lagos Police Public Relations Office prior to enlisting in the Nigeria Police Force in 2018.
Speaking on the terrible event, a few police officers claimed that Akinlotan’s death was just one of many similar deaths that happened around the country involving police officers of different ranks.
They attributed the ceaseless deaths to force officers’ insufficient sleep.
They won’t allow us time to rest, some of the Lagos police claimed. Our health is not a concern for anyone at work. They will want you to bring in a medical report even if you are ill before letting you to get treatment on your own. Every day, you work numerous shifts. They refuse to give us yearly leave. Tell me how the cops won’t just keep dying. We keep losing cops to preventable incidents, which is tragic.
