Two alleged kidnappers were slain by Delta State police command agents, who also freed their captives, a married couple, from the Warri and Ughelli regions of the state.
On Wednesday, CSP Aliyu Shaba led agents from the Ovwian Aladja division in a proactive patrol aimed at fostering trust along the DSC/Effurrun road, which proved to be the death knell for the murdered suspects.
The DPO received a distress call while on patrol reporting that a man and his wife (name withheld) had been abducted and that the suspected culprits had also stolen their Lexus Jeep (registration number concealed).
The suspected kidnappers’ alleged escape path was promptly followed by the DPO, who eventually stopped the car by Aziza Junction on the Warri-Sapele Road.
Bright Edafe, the police public relations officer, verified that the kidnappers fired on the team in an attempt to flee when they spotted the police. The police responded effectively.
“While two of the suspects were neutralized by the police, the others fled after leaving the car. Unharmed, the victims were saved. Thirteen live cartridges, one pump action gun, one AK47 rifle with breach number 16869, forty-six rounds of live 7.62 ammo, and one were all found.
He claimed that the culprits are being sought out in a manhunt.
The police commissioner, CP Wale Abass, urged other DPOs to sanitize their regions as well while expressing delight with the way the effective operation was carried out.
He claimed that the order would compel criminals to flee the area or abstain from wrongdoing.
The CP also urged parents and community leaders to communicate to their children and wards about the dangers of turning to violence in order to survive, warning them that doing so will result in disaster in the end.
