The Nigeria Police Force has launched a nationwide manhunt after one of its official vehicles vanished from the Force Headquarters in Abuja, raising fresh concerns about internal security lapses at the nation’s highest policing institution.

The missing vehicle, a Toyota Buffalo Land Cruiser with registration number NPF 5594 D and chassis number JTELU71JX0B027126, was reported stolen on July 28, 2025. The vehicle was attached to the Department of Operations at the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja.

According to a police signal circulated by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) and relayed through the Katsina Command, the SUV was allegedly removed from the official parking lot. The internal memo described the case as “very important” and confirmed that investigations were underway.

“All formations, area commands, and divisional police officers are hereby directed to remain on alert and assist in the possible recovery of the missing vehicle,” the signal read.

Security agencies nationwide have also been placed on notice and instructed to report immediately any lead that could aid in tracing the vehicle.

The incident has triggered questions over security checks at the Force Headquarters and how an official SUV could disappear from within the premises without detection.
