The Obidient Movement has accused the factional National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, of unleashing thugs on social activist Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama P.
The group, in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, on Sunday, described the alleged assault as “shameful” and “barbaric.” Tanko claimed Abure resorted to thuggery instead of responsible leadership, insisting the act insulted womanhood and desecrated democratic values.
The Movement urged the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to investigate the attack and bring both the perpetrators and their sponsors to justice.
The clash stems from an incident on Saturday when LP spokesman, Obiora Ifoh, alleged that Mama P verbally attacked Abure during a flight from Abuja to Benin, Edo State. The activist, a staunch supporter of former presidential candidate Peter Obi, was subsequently remanded at the Edo State Police Command.
Tanko, however, accused Abure of weaponizing violence against dissent. “To unleash thugs on Mama P is cowardly and exposes the bankruptcy of his character,” he said. “No amount of intimidation or harassment will silence Mama P or the millions she represents.”
The Obidient Movement maintained that Abure’s alleged actions prove him unfit to lead the Labour Party, declaring that the struggle for a “New Nigeria” cannot be derailed by violence.
