Tunji Wusu –

The Edo State Police Command’s agents have detained 46 people for cult-related activities in Benin and the area as a result of the waves of cult killings in Edo.

While briefing journalists during the parade of the suspects in Benin, the Edo Command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chidi Nwanbuzor, revealed this.

Going further, the agents of the Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Unit battled an uptick in the murdering of members of hidden cult rivals. They detained around 18 suspects from various parts of Benin City, and they all admitted to being members of the secret cult confraternity.

Additionally, on July 13, members of the Anti-Cultism Unit and the Edo State Security Network entered the city and detained 28 male suspects who had admitted to being members of a covert cult confraternity in various parts of the city.

“We are requesting that everyone in Edo who is a good citizen and the broader public remain quiet so that the cultism issue can be put to rest.

Mohammed Dankwara, the CP of Edo, has stated that the city’s residents must maintain the peace and tranquillity for which they are renowned, and he is on the scene to combat the criminals who are terrorizing it and murdering themselves.

Two single-barrel rifles built in the area, as well as phones, were found on the suspects.

In the meantime, five members of a Benin-based fraud gang have been detained by the Edo police for allegedly scamming a student in Edo, age 21, of N9.8 million.

According to Nwabuzor, an inquiry into the victim’s allegation led to the arrests of the alleged syndicate members between July 9 and July 10 at various places.

He described how the tale began with the young lady, Ekpoma, an Ambrose All University student, being approached and hypnotized.

According to the police spokeswoman, after the syndicate members took the victim’s phone, she apparently lost consciousness.

“They took her phone, demanded that she deactivate it, and then began withdrawing money to the tune of N9.8 million per ton.

He claimed it was “good news today” that agents from the anti-kidnapping and cybercrime section had detained the five suspects in various parts of Benin City.

The woman, whose identity has been withheld for security reasons, said that she was harassed while out shopping at Uromi Market in the state’s Esan North East local government region.

She claimed that as soon as one of the syndicates touched her, she quickly lost consciousness and started to follow him.

She claimed that the syndicate member took her to see the other members, who made her a diamond purchase promise and secretly took away her ATM card among other things.

She said that they gained access to her two bank accounts and withdrew N9.8 million, which represented the earnings from the disposal of the assets owned by her late father.
