The Police Reform Secretariat Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and international development partners following a strategic visit to the office of the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu.

Speaking after the meeting, Prof. Olu Ogunsakin explained that the purpose of the visit was to bring together international partners to engage with the Nigeria Police on key areas where support can be provided to enhance policing standards and operational effectiveness in the country.

According to him, discussions focused on advancing community policing initiatives, strengthening forensic and cybercrime capabilities, improving election security procedures, and reviewing police training curricula to meet global best practices.

Prof. Ogunsakin noted that international partners from countries including Germany, South Korea, the United States, and the United Kingdom participated in the engagement, emphasizing the shared commitment towards improving policing capacity and democratic processes in Nigeria.

He further disclosed that the Police Reform Secretariat is currently supporting train-the-trainer programmes and working on mechanisms to improve communication and coordination among stakeholders through periodic newsletters and strategic engagements.

On election security, he stressed that while the Independent National Electoral Commission remains the lead agency for conducting elections, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies play a vital supporting role in ensuring peaceful and credible electoral processes.

He also urged Nigerians to continue supporting the police in their efforts to build a safer and more secure nation.
