Gunmen stormed the divisional police headquarters in the riverside town of Ogbia in Bayelsa State’s Ogbia Local Government Area on Monday morning.
According to sources, the armed individuals rushed the outpost in the early hours of the day, apparently to steal weaponry, but were immediately repulsed by the police officers on duty.
The attack was confirmed by the state police command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Asinim Butswat, who stated that the attackers were repulsed and no lives were lost.
“Policemen attached to the Nigeria Police Force’s Ogbia Divisional Headquarters, Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, repelled an attack by suspected gunmen,” he added.
“The suspected gunmen opened fire on the police officers on duty at the Ogbia Divisional Headquarters on June 26, 2023, around 0230 hours, with the intent of taking their rifles.”
“The gallant police officers repelled the attack, forcing the gunmen to flee through the waterways.” The attack resulted in no deaths.
“Tactical units, the Marine Police, and other security agencies have been notified.”
“Security personnel are working feverishly to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.” The investigation is still going on.”
