Before of Saturday’s presidential and national assembly elections, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, has disclosed how politicians intend to buy votes.
The EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, claims that information acquired by the Commission has revealed that some politicians intend to purchase votes not with money but rather in kind.
This was revealed by Bawa during an interview on The 2023 Verdict on Channels Television on Wednesday.
Remember that the statewide shortage of fresh naira notes will be present when Nigerians cast their votes in the federal elections of 2023.
The head of the EFCC stated, “We have information that several people have purchased some items that they intend to use to purchase votes in kind rather than cash. Some of these items are accessible.
Nigerians also serve as politicians. We each have a unique style of carrying out our tasks. We also have firsthand knowledge of this.
Nonetheless, Bawa urged all Nigerians to assist the anti-graft organization in its efforts to combat vote-buying and other electoral offenses.
Also, he urged the electorate to choose candidates for political offices who possess moral character and integrity.
Bawa contends that vote-buying is a major problem that must be eradicated at all costs since it impacts the future of Nigeria and its population.
Bawa remarked in response to the challenge the EFCC was facing with relation to vote-buying, “I think the challenge is if Nigerians are not buying into what we are doing. That, in my opinion, is the main obstacle.
The office of citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is the most powerful office in this nation, thus if we are united on that front,
“We can all work together to make sure that the candidates we elect to various elective offices are people of better moral caliber and shown integrity. When they are in office is the only time you can tell if they have truly sold themselves on what they will do, he said.
