Premier League chief executive Richard Masters has acknowledged growing frustration over the delay in reaching a verdict on Manchester City’s alleged financial rule breaches.

The club continues to face uncertainty as it awaits the outcome of a case involving 115 charges of alleged violations of the Premier League’s financial regulations. Manchester City, which has consistently denied wrongdoing, was charged in February 2023.

Masters said the process had taken longer than expected but stressed that the league must allow it to continue without interference.

“Our rules are very clear about that – I have to keep ‌everything confidential until we’re ready to hand down a decision and be clear about it,” Masters told ‌Sky News. “I can’t give any update on timing or what’s happening.

“There’s only one available route through this, which is to allow the process to take its course.

“It ‌has taken longer than expected, and I do understand the frustrations.”

The prolonged wait continues as Manchester City begins a new era under former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca following Pep Guardiola’s departure.

Guardiola ended his decade-long spell at the club after winning six Premier League titles, the Champions League, the Club World Cup and several other trophies.

Manchester City will begin its Premier League campaign at home against Bournemouth on Sunday, with attention also remaining on the outcome of the long-running case.

Do you think the prolonged delay in the Manchester City case is becoming a problem for the Premier League?
