The gruesome murder of Chief Oyibo Chukwu, the personal assistant and Labour Party senatorial candidate for Enugu East Senatorial District, has drawn strong condemnation from President Muhammadu Buhari.

On Friday, Femi Adesina, the president’s special media and publicity adviser, made this announcement.

Lawyer Oyibo, who was returning from a campaign stop in Amechi Awkunanaw, Enugu South LoLPcal Government Area on Wednesday night, reportedly came under attack.

The perpetrators of this heinous deed, according to the presidential statement, have no regard for human life or dignity and hence merit both natural and heavenly vengeance.

“The President reaffirms his stated commitment to an election free from hostility and violence.

“He reminds everyone involved in politics that the electorate’s decision is what matters, and that’s why all Nigerians who are eligible should bravely exercise their civic rights without any fear of intimidation.

“The President commiserates with the families of the victims, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and the Labour Party while directing security services to find those responsible for this horrible act.

The statement said, “President Buhari prays for the repose of the souls of the departed and consolation for those in mourning.”
