President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed that the sponsors of the Boko Haram insurgency intend to divide Nigeria. After receiving the African Award for Strengthening Peace, Buhari stated that supporters of such projects never meant well.
“Boko Haram is false,” he said. You claim that Western education is ungodly. It’s a forgery. Whoever is funding them simply wants to divide the country. All of the grounds they seized before we arrived have been recovered, and the rebuilding process is proceeding apace.
Buhari also revealed that his administration has spent $1 billion to reclaim terrorist-seized territories. These funds, he believes, would have been better spent on critical infrastructure such as healthcare and education.
“When I took power in 2015, Boko Haram controlled about two-thirds of Borno State, half of Yobe State, and a couple of local government areas in Adamawa State, all in Nigeria’s North-East,” he added.
