According to the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, the recently opened N21 billion Presidential Wing of the State House Medical Center will eliminate the need for future presidents and their families to travel abroad for medical treatment.
Mrs. Buhari made this statement while attending the opening of the facility on the grounds of the Presidential Villa in Abuja with other dignitaries and her husband, President Muhammadu Buhari.
The First Lady claimed that the concept for a Presidential Wing first entered her thoughts during her husband’s prolonged stay in a London hospital in 2017.
She claimed that after the institution was put into operation, the medical requirements of succeeding presidents and their families would be properly met.
She claimed that instead of spending money on extravagant excursions, the first family would just fly medical specialists to Abuja to help their colleagues if necessary.
“I’m content and satisfied right now. We praise God that the project was completed even if we are departing.
“I’ve chosen it for six years now. This initiative was started by me six years ago, when my spouse spent three continuous months away from home. And it shouldn’t be because Nigeria is home to all the experts. All we need is a sturdy foundation.
The number of patients being treated in the hospital that is supposed to be for the First Family is around 35,000, which is a lot. That’s why I asked that we build a VIP Wing next to the presidential residence,” Mrs. Buhari stated.
The first family asked her if the institution would put an end to medical tourism, and she said, “Yes! This one is for the First Family’s health and wellbeing. Now they don’t need to travel abroad. To assist our people, they might just need to fly in professionals. And you do.
Therefore, there is no need for any leader to travel for extended periods of time for medical reasons.
