Chief Charles Udeogaranya, a previous candidate for president of the All Progressives Congress in the 2019 elections, issued a warning to the federal government on Monday not to move on with the new naira notes before the 2023 general election.
Udeogaranya, who issued the warning in a statement released in Abuja, claimed that if the country wanted to avoid the imminent risk and the damaging effects it would have on the integrity of the elections, the action was required.
He claims that in order to buy votes, politicians will bribe bank employees to seize the new currency. They might not release them until the day before elections.
Udeogaranya revealed that such immoral behavior will undermine the goals of the new naira project and render the 2023 general elections a pointless activity.
He stated, “I believe the Federal Government would do better to take this occasion to further encourage Nigerians to participate more on the electronic transaction platforms and to strengthen all required infrastructures that supports electronic transactions.”
The former APC leader added that Nigerians who presented old notes before the deadline should only have their accounts reimbursed with the same amount and not be allowed to withdraw more than N10,000 until after the general election in 2023.
Even yet, he encouraged the government to postpone the collection of taxes, revenues, transportation fees, and all other charges until after the general elections in 2023.
“The fundamental reason politicians do not hold any regard to Nigerians or the demands of the people, after buying their way into government house, is the inability of Nigerians to vote their conscience in the electoral system,” he said in his conclusion.
