The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Auwal Musa Mohammed as the new Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy (POLAC), Wudil, Kano State, alongside the deployment of eight Commissioners of Police (CPs) to various state commands across the country.
The Commission said the appointments, approved during its meeting on Wednesday, were aimed at filling vacancies created by the recent promotion of senior police officers and ensuring sustained operational effectiveness in the Nigeria Police Force.
According to the PSC, AIG Mohammed brings more than 33 years of policing experience spanning operations, criminal investigations, intelligence-led policing and police training. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Bayero University, Kano.
Throughout his career, he has held several strategic positions within the Force, including Commandant of the Police College, Maiduguri, Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Assistant Inspector General of Police in Zone 3 and Zone 6, and has participated in several national and international security engagements. He is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
The Commission also approved the posting of eight Commissioners of Police to state commands. CP Afolabi Wilfred Olutokunbo, formerly Commissioner of Police, Administration, Training and Development, was posted to Abia State Command. CP Ayodeji Faniyan, formerly Commissioner of Police, Administration, Police Cooperative Society, Lagos, was deployed to Plateau State Command.
Similarly, CP Saka Adewale Ajao, who previously served as Commissioner of Police, Administration, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Gombe, was posted to Bayelsa State. CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue moved from the INTERPOL National Central Bureau, Abuja, to head the Cross River State Command, while CP Nnanna Oji Ama, formerly Commissioner of Police, Intelligence, was posted to Anambra State Command.
Others are CP Patrick Daaor, who moved from the Force Intelligence Department, Abuja, to take charge of Edo State Command; CP Tijani Murtala, posted to Jigawa State Command; and CP Samuel Erale Etaifo, deployed to Delta State Command.
Speaking during the Commission’s meeting, Board Member and Honourable Commissioner I, Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (retd.), who presided over the session, charged the newly posted senior officers to uphold the Constitution, remain politically neutral and carry out their responsibilities with integrity and professionalism.
He urged them to stand firmly by the rule of law, discharge their duties diligently and ensure fairness in the administration of policing in their respective commands.
The Commission noted that the new postings are expected to strengthen leadership across the affected commands and enhance operational efficiency in line with the Nigeria Police Force’s mandate of protecting lives and property, maintaining public order and enforcing the law.
Other members of the Commission present at the meeting included Alhaji Abdulfatah Mohammed, Honourable Commissioner; Justice Christine Ladi Dabup (retd.), Honourable Commissioner; and the Secretary to the Commission, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani.
