Police Arrest Fifth Suspect in Mob Killing

The Plateau State Police Command has arrested another suspect over the alleged mob killing of University of Jos graduate Ibrahim Mbaya, as investigators continue efforts to bring everyone involved in the incident to justice. The latest arrest marks another major development in the case, which has sparked widespread public outrage and renewed calls to end mob killing across Nigeria.

In a statement issued in Jos, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, said detectives acted on credible intelligence to arrest Yusuf Christopher Beskeni, 24, for his alleged role in the attack that led to Mbaya’s death.

According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly took part in the assault. The statement added, “The suspect allegedly played an active role in the unlawful assault on the deceased. He is specifically alleged to have participated in tying the deceased to a pole while he was subjected to severe assault by members of the mob.”

The Plateau State Police Command confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and assisting investigators. Officers have also intensified efforts to track down and arrest other suspects who remain on the run.

The Acting Commissioner of Police, DCP Usman Sheikh Adamu, assured the deceased’s family and residents of Plateau State that the command remains committed to conducting a thorough investigation. He pledged that everyone found responsible for the mob killing would face prosecution in accordance with the law.

The police also appealed to members of the public to provide useful information that could support the ongoing investigation.

Ibrahim Mbaya, popularly known as “Ibee,” died on July 27 after he was allegedly attacked by a mob over accusations of stealing a mobile phone at an off-campus residence in Jos. With the latest arrest, the number of suspects in custody has increased to five, while investigations continue.
