Babatunji Wusu –
Olayinka Oladunjoye was sworn in as a federal commissioner by President Bola Tinubu, marking a key appointment to the National Population Commission (NPC).
The ceremony was held in the Council Chamber of the State House in Abuja, immediately prior to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
Oladunjoye, a former commissioner of education, commerce, and cooperatives in Lagos State, takes over for Mrs. Bimbo Salu-Hudeyin, who was recently appointed to a new position by the state government of Lagos.
With the oath-taking ceremony, Oladunjoye’s official stint in the NPC began.
The occasion fell on the same week when President Tinubu presided over the FEC meeting.
High-ranking government officials attended the meeting, including Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan, the head of the Federation’s civil service, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.
The Federal Capital Territory’s Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, was noticeably missing, though, because her home just caught fire.
Furthermore, the positions held by Simon Lalong, the Minister of Labor, and Betta Edu, the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, remained unfilled.
Commissioner Oladunjoye has promised to work closely with all parties involved in her new role, stressing the use of technology to carry out a more inclusive and accurate data-driven census.
Speaking to the media following her oath of office, Oladunjoye pledged to use her experience and the most recent developments in technology to improve the NPC’s operations and guarantee that the next census would adhere to the strictest criteria of inclusivity and acceptability.
With Oladunjoye’s experience in public service, the administration is demonstrating its commitment to improving national planning and development through accurate demographic statistics. This appointment will help the commission accomplish its important task by providing significant insights and improvements.
