Reggae icon and celebrated actor James Chambers, globally known as Jimmy Cliff, has died. He passed away following a seizure that was complicated by pneumonia, according to a statement released on his official social media pages.
His wife announced the death early on Monday, expressing “profound sadness” as she confirmed the singer’s transition. “My husband, Jimmy Cliff, has crossed over due to a seizure followed by pneumonia,” she wrote.
She praised family, friends, fellow artists and colleagues who stood by the musician throughout his decades-long career. She also acknowledged the unwavering devotion of fans across the world, noting that their support remained his greatest strength.
Cliff’s wife further extended gratitude to Dr. Couceyro and the medical team who “were extremely supportive and helpful during this difficult process.”
She appealed for privacy as the family mourns, adding that further details will be shared at a later time.
Jimmy Cliff, famed for hits such as “Many Rivers to Cross,” “The Harder They Come,” and “You Can Get It If You Really Want,” leaves behind a global legacy that helped shape reggae music into a worldwide force.
