Rivers State University Digital Transformation Initiative launch ceremony

Rivers State University Digital Transformation Initiative has officially begun as the institution unveiled a technology-driven programme aimed at improving teaching, learning, research and administration. University leaders said the project marks a major step towards building a connected and smart campus capable of meeting the demands of modern higher education.

Speaking during the launch at the University Senate Chamber, Vice-Chancellor Professor Isaac Zeb-Obipi described the initiative as a landmark achievement. He said the programme goes beyond introducing new technology because it focuses on innovation, efficiency, accessibility and academic excellence.

The Rivers State University Digital Transformation Initiative introduces several digital platforms, including a Learning Management System (LMS), workflow and document management system, Computer for All Programme, e-Campus mobile app, Innovation Hub, improved internet infrastructure, digital display system, health management platform, alumni website and e-payslip portal. The university also announced mandatory ICT training for staff to ensure the effective use of the new systems.

Meanwhile, Professor Zeb-Obipi praised Cinfores Limited for providing technical support. He said the partnership demonstrates how collaboration between universities and industry can strengthen institutional development.

Former Vice-Chancellor Professor Barineme Fakae welcomed the development, saying it builds on the university’s earlier “e-Varsity” vision. Similarly, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Blessing Jaja, said the project would improve service delivery and position the institution as a leader in digital innovation.

Acting Registrar Dr Idanyingi Daminabo described the launch as the beginning of a new era for the university. In addition, Cinfores Managing Director Ibifuro Asawo thanked the institution for its confidence in the company.

Representatives of the Alumni Association and Student Union also backed the initiative, saying the Rivers State University Digital Transformation Initiative will improve learning, administration and engagement across the university community.
