Rotimi Amaechi challenges Tinubu as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) prepares for the 2027 general election, saying the party is ready for whatever President Bola Tinubu brings to the political contest.
Mr Amaechi, the ADC vice-presidential candidate, made the remarks on Tuesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
The former Rivers State governor responded to comments by President Tinubu that he would win the 2027 election.
He said the president could continue telling Nigerians that he would win the election “at all cost” until both sides meet on the field.
Amaechi added that the ADC would respond to whatever the president and his political allies did during the election.
“Whatever the president wants us to do at the field, we will do it. I’m not worried about what he wants to do. We will meet at the field.”
He also argued that Nigeria needs to be rescued from what he described as actions by the president and his administration.
“Nigeria has to be rescued,” Mr Amaechi said.
He added that the actions of President Tinubu and his allies were “insulting my faith”.
The comments come as opposition parties intensify preparations for the 2027 presidential election.

Amaechi contested the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary against Tinubu in 2022 but lost the contest.
He later left the APC and joined the ADC as opposition parties moved to build a stronger platform ahead of the 2027 election.
The ADC has now paired Amaechi with former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar. Amaechi will serve as Mr Atiku’s running mate as the party prepares to contest the presidency.
Meanwhile, the political contest is expected to intensify as parties position themselves for the 2027 polls.
The ADC’s choice of Atiku and Amaechi brings together two experienced politicians with long records in Nigerian politics.
For now, Amaechi says the opposition is ready to settle the contest at the ballot box.
