Political analyst and Director of the Abuja School of Social Thought and Politics, Sam Amadi, says candidates are running against Peter Obi rather than President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Sam Amadi says candidates are running against Peter Obi despite Tinubu being the incumbent president seeking another term. He made the remarks in a post on X, where he criticised the current political climate surrounding the race.
According to Amadi, the focus on Obi instead of the sitting president makes the contest unusual. He argued that the political discourse has shifted away from scrutinising the government and towards challenging the former Labour Party presidential candidate.
“Everyone is running against Peter Obi for the presidency, not against the incumbent president Bola Tinubu,” Amadi wrote. He further described the forthcoming poll as “the most farcical election in Nigeria’s history.”
Peter Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party, has indicated his intention to run again in 2027. Meanwhile, President Tinubu is expected to seek re-election.
In addition, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, now associated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is widely regarded as one of the major contenders.
As political activities gather momentum, Sam Amadi says candidates are running against Peter Obi, a statement that has sparked debate among supporters and critics across Nigeria’s political landscape.
