American-Jamaican singer Sean Kingston has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison for orchestrating a $1 million fraud that involved luxury cars, watches, and electronics.
Kingston, born Kisean Paul Anderson, was convicted in March alongside his mother, Janice Eleanor Turner, on conspiracy and wire fraud charges. Turner, who prosecutors described as his partner in crime, received a five-year prison sentence last month.
Prosecutors told the court that Kingston, 35, exploited his celebrity status to swindle sellers out of high-value goods, including a bulletproof Cadillac Escalade, luxury watches, and a 19-foot LED television. He allegedly faked wire transfer receipts and enticed victims with false promises of social media promotion.
U.S. District Judge David Leibowitz rejected a request from Kingston’s lawyer to delay his prison term over health concerns, ordering the singer’s immediate remand after Friday’s sentencing in a South Florida courtroom.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Marc Anton branded Kingston a “thief and a conman,” accusing him of running a calculated scheme for years. Defense attorney Zeljka Bozanic argued that Kingston lacked financial discipline but insisted he had started repaying victims.
Kingston and his mother were arrested in May 2024 after a SWAT raid at his rented Fort Lauderdale mansion.
The Florida-born artist, who was raised in Jamaica, shot to fame at 17 with his 2007 global hit Beautiful Girls.
