The Senate Chief Whip, Senator Monguno, has openly disagreed with Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South over the proposed tax reform bills. Monguno opposed Ndume’s suggestion to withdraw the bills, calling it an “academic exercise” unfit for Senate consideration.

Speaking during a Senate session, Monguno emphasized that legislative procedures are clearly outlined in the Senate rule book and supported by constitutional powers. He noted that the process proposed by Ndume deviates from established legislative norms.

While acknowledging Ndume’s extensive legislative experience, Monguno argued that the bill should proceed to its second reading as it aims to alleviate the tax burden on Nigerians. He described the proposal as “novel” and beneficial for the populace, reinforcing his support for its progression.
