The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Dr Zainab Marwa as a member of the governing board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), representing the North-East geopolitical zone. The Zainab Marwa NDDC appointment received approval during Wednesday’s plenary after lawmakers considered and adopted the report of the Senate Committee on NDDC. The Zainab Marwa NDDC appointment followed the Senate’s review of her nomination and screening.

The committee’s report, originally sponsored by its Chairman and senator representing Cross River South, Asuquo Ekpenyong, was presented by the senator representing Imo North, Patrick Ndubueze.

While presenting the report, Ndubueze explained that President Bola Tinubu had forwarded Marwa’s nomination to the Senate for confirmation. He said the nomination was referred to the committee, which conducted an open screening to evaluate her qualifications, experience, integrity and readiness for the role.

Ndubueze said, “Having carefully screened the nominee and considered all relevant documents submitted, the committee is satisfied that Dr. Zainab Marwa possesses the requisite qualifications, experience, integrity, and competence required for the appointment.

“Accordingly, the committee recommends that the Senate do confirm the appointment of Dr. Zainab Marwa as a member representing the North-East in the governing board of the Niger Delta Development Commission.”

The Senate later resolved into the Committee of the Whole to examine the report before adopting its recommendations. Senate President Godswill Akpabio then called for a voice vote, after which the Zainab Marwa NDDC appointment received official confirmation.

“The nomination of Dr. Zainab Marwa, representing the North-East in the Niger Delta Development Commission, is hereby confirmed as a member of the governing board of the Niger Delta Development Commission,” Akpabio said.

He also praised the committee for completing its assignment without delay and thanked fellow senators for their contributions. “I thank the committee on NDDC for the expeditious manner in which this assignment was carried out. I thank all my colleagues for their contributions.

“I wish the confirmed nominee, Dr. Zainab Marwa, well as a member of the governing board of the Niger Delta Development Commission. I hope that her contribution will enhance the development and progress of the Niger Delta region,” Akpabio added.

How could the Zainab Marwa NDDC appointment contribute to the commission’s efforts to drive development in the Niger Delta?
