Diaspora voting for the presidential election will be implemented by the Senate.

The outdated 1939 Stamp Duty Act would be reviewed, it added, and the executive branch was pushed to introduce tax legislation rather than bills pertaining to specific people.

At the conclusion of a two-day retreat organized by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) in Ikot Ekpene, Always Ibom State, senators from the 10th National Assembly stated in a communiqué that the situation in which numerous government agencies are engaged in tax collection and new laws continue to require these agencies to collect taxes ought to be stopped by a legislative resolution.

“Electronic bills, not private member bills, should be used to introduce tax legislation.

“The policy for tax waivers needs to be reviewed in order to make sure that it is in line with the government’s efforts to mobilize revenue by increasing the transparency and accountability of the waiver process.

“The Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms’ proposed legislation, the Emergency Economic Intervention Bill from the Executive, must be considered and approved in order to solve difficulties with exchange rate management, inflation, poverty, and job creation.
