-Ex-Newcastle striker believes Blues can rival Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal
-Praises Chelsea’s smart signings under Maresca’s leadership
Former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer has thrown his weight behind Chelsea, saying the London club have what it takes to challenge for the Premier League title this coming season.
Chelsea finished fourth last season, behind Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool. Despite falling short of a title push, the Blues showed signs of revival under new leadership—and Shearer believes they’re poised to build on that momentum.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, the English football legend expressed optimism about the team’s prospects under manager Enzo Maresca.
Asked whether Chelsea can genuinely compete for the league title, Shearer responded with conviction.
“I do, yeah. I don’t think they are finished in terms of their transfer business. I think there will be more come in and go out as well,” he said.
Shearer applauded the club’s recruitment strategy, describing their signings as “very smart” and “clever.” He hinted at further incoming and outgoing players before the new season kicks off.
“So I think they will [challenge for the Premier League], absolutely,” he added. “They will build on what they have achieved this season—Conference League, qualifying for the Champions League—and they will go again.”
With Maresca at the helm and strategic reinforcements expected, Shearer believes Chelsea have the ingredients to go toe-to-toe with the Premier League’s current heavyweights.
