Inter Milan legend Wesley Sneijder has tipped Kylian Mbappé, Vinícius Júnior, and teenage sensation Lamine Yamal to become football’s next global icons after Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo hang up their boots.

Messi and Ronaldo, who have ruled world football for over 15 years with a combined 15-plus Ballon d’Or titles, are nearing the end of their storied careers and are expected to retire after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking to Adventure Gamers, Sneijder said the trio represents the future of the beautiful game.

“Once Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo retire, people will start talking more about Mbappé, Vinícius, and Lamine Yamal, like how we talk about Ronaldo and Messi now,” Sneijder said.

The Dutch football icon emphasized that football greatness evolves with each generation.

“When Diego Maradona quit, other stars emerged. In 100 years, people won’t talk about Mbappé, Vinícius or Yamal the same. There will always be a new generation ready to take over,” he added.

Sneijder’s comments echo the ongoing debate among fans about who will carry the torch in the post-Messi and Ronaldo era—a discussion now gaining clarity with his endorsement of the next potential superstars.
