Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, Sultan of Sokoto and President of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), has designated Wednesday, June 28 as Eid-Ul-Adha.
Eid al-Adha, also known as Sallah, is the second celebration in the Hijrah calendar, following Eid-ul-Fitr, which commemorates the end of Ramadan.
It depicts a ram wearing a sl@ught£ring at the “festival of sacrifice.”
Eid al-Adha celebrates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son, Isma’il, to show his devotion to God.
In a statement released by the National Moonsighting Committee, the president of the NSCIA declared Monday, June 19, to be the first day of Dhul-Hijjah 1444 AH.
“Monday, June 19, 2023, has been designated as the first day of Zul-Hijjah 1444 AH by the Sultanate Council of Sokoto.
Accordingly, Eidul Adha 1444 AH will occur on Wednesday, June 28, 2023. His Excellence.
